The rapid spread of infectious diseases like Ebola poses significant global health challenges. This article examines current outbreaks and their biblical context.

The 2013-2014 Ebola outbreak in West Africa primarily affected Guinea, Sierra Leone, and Liberia. According to the World Health Organization, Ebola has a 50% fatality rate and spreads through body fluids. By September 2014, it had claimed 3,091 lives in West Africa, with an additional 41 deaths in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The first U.S. Ebola case was diagnosed in September 2014 when a man traveled from Liberia to Texas. Simultaneously, the CDC monitored enterovirus D68, which affected over 400 Americans across 40 states, causing concerning symptoms including paralysis in some Denver children.

Biblical perspective suggests that diseases can be linked to disobedience of God's laws. Deuteronomy 28:20-22 warns of diseases as consequences of rejecting divine guidance, while Deuteronomy 7:12-15 promises protection from illness for those who follow God's commands. However, the Bible also acknowledges that illness can strike the innocent through time and chance (Ecclesiastes 9:11).

Prophecies in Revelation 6:7-8 describe disease epidemics as one of the four horsemen of the Apocalypse, preceding Christ's return. While these challenges persist, the Bible promises an eventual end to such afflictions (Revelation 22:3) through the establishment of God's Kingdom on Earth.

Current disease outbreaks serve as reminders to consider spiritual solutions alongside medical interventions. While medical professionals work tirelessly to combat these diseases, the biblical perspective suggests that true prevention might require addressing both physical and spiritual aspects of human health.
