How Finding Joy Through Cancer Deepened My Faith

I was diagnosed with colon cancer four months ago, facing stage 3 cancer that had invaded my lymph nodes. Despite needing surgery and intense chemotherapy treatment, I've found unexpected joy through this journey.

Christ's presence has been more real to me than ever before. Rather than struggling with doubt or anger, I've experienced His faithfulness in profound new ways during my treatment, which includes twelve rounds of chemotherapy every two weeks.

Psalm 139 became my anchor through this trial. The psalm reveals three key truths that have sustained me:

  1. God knows every thought and fear before I even think it, yet His thoughts toward me remain loving and perfect
  2. His presence never leaves me - even in my darkest moments of pain and treatment
  3. He crafted every cell of my body with purpose, including the cancer cells, to accomplish His will

The cancer has actually deepened my faith. While I don't enjoy having cancer, this experience has been worthwhile because:

  • It's made Christ's presence more tangible than just doctrine
  • It's teaching me to trust God fully with my death, whenever it comes
  • It's part of my sanctification journey, rooting out sin with patience and mercy

Through my continuing treatment, I've learned that grief and fear can coexist with deep joy when anchored in God's promises. He uses even our suffering to draw us closer to Himself.

This experience has shown me that while cancer brings immense challenges, God's faithful presence transforms even our darkest valleys into opportunities for profound spiritual growth and unexpected joy.
