Sin thrives in darkness but finds healing in the right kind of light. Like a child playing hide-and-seek, we often conceal ourselves from God and others, yet our deepest desire is to be found, known, and loved.

When confronted with sin, the world typically responds in three harmful ways:

  • Shaming and burying the person deeper
  • Ignoring the situation completely
  • Celebrating and encouraging the sin

These responses only lead to more pain and bondage. What we truly need isn't darker shadows to hide in, but the right kind of light that offers freedom and forgiveness.

Jesus demonstrates this perfect light in John 4:1-42 with the Samaritan woman. Though He knew her sins, He offered love and acceptance instead of condemnation. This transformed her greatest fear (being known) into her greatest comfort, freeing her to pursue genuine change.

To step into the light effectively:

  1. Practice confession (James 5:16)
  • Be honest about sins, weaknesses, and struggles
  • Create agreement between how others see us and who we truly are
  • Remember that intimacy grows with authentic knowledge
  1. Choose proper confidants
  • Select trustworthy individuals
  • Match disclosure levels to relationship depth
  • Maintain same-gender accountability partners
  • Share every struggle with someone, but not every struggle with everyone
  1. Remember Jesus's nature
  • He removes sin, shame, and condemnation
  • He's the remedy to guilt, not its cause
  • His light exposes what His blood has already covered

True freedom comes not from successful hiding but from being fully known yet still accepted through God's grace. When we stumble, we should run toward Jesus's light rather than away from it, finding both forgiveness and transformation in His presence.
