Study Reveals All Humans Descended From Single Ancient Couple
Recent research from the University of Basel and Rockefeller University suggests all humans descended from a single couple, based on analysis of mitochondrial DNA from 5 million humans and animals. The study found that 9 out of 10 animals also share ancestry with a single mated pair.

While some experts dispute these findings, citing human diversity as evidence against a single ancestral pair, the research parallels the biblical account of human origins. According to Genesis, God created Adam from dust and Eve from Adam's rib, establishing them as humanity's first parents. This is reinforced in Genesis 3:20 and Acts 17:26, which describe Eve as "mother of all living" and state that God "made from one blood every nation of men."
The researchers date this original couple to 100,000-200,000 years ago, differing from biblical chronology. However, this discovery joins other scientific findings that have validated biblical accounts:
- Archaeological excavations uncovered King Sargon II's palace, confirming his existence as mentioned in Isaiah 20:1
- The Nabonidus Cylinder discovery proved the existence of King Belshazzar
- Hezekiah's tunnel, described in 2 Kings 20:20 and 2 Chronicles 32:30, was discovered with an inscription matching biblical accounts
- Sennacherib's Prism corroborated the biblical account of his campaign against Judah
