The paradox of Christmas for Christians lies in simultaneously celebrating Christ's first coming while longing for his return. As we reflect on God's fulfilled Old Testament promises during December, we're reminded of his faithfulness in sending the Messiah exactly as foretold.

Daily distractions often dim our anticipation of Christ's return. Whether caught up in self-reliance or worldly pursuits, we can lose sight of our need for the Savior. John the Baptist's simple approach to preparing people for the Messiah offers guidance - he simply bore witness, saying "Behold, the Lamb of God!" (John 1:36).

This witness proved powerful enough to compel disciples to follow Jesus and share the news with others. Their transformation came through encountering Jesus himself - the Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, and Prince of Peace (Isaiah 9:6).

To help focus on Christ this Advent season, The Gospel Coalition has created "Unto Us: 25 Advent Devotions About the Messiah." This resource follows the Scripture texts from Handel's Messiah, offering daily readings from December 1st through Christmas. Each devotion includes Scripture, reflection, and response questions, ideal for individual or group study.

These devotions aim to satisfy and stir our longing for Christ, whether used personally or shared with others. The goal is to reflect on the Messiah himself, joining the multitude described in Revelation 19:6-7:

"Hallelujah! For the Lord our God the Almighty reigns. Let us rejoice and exult and give him the glory."
