The tragic situation in Aleppo serves as a powerful reminder of the darkness that can engulf our world. The contrast between the city's eastern and western regions tells a stark tale of human suffering.

While western Aleppo maintained basic utilities under Assad's control, the eastern sector faced severe deprivation. Residents resorted to burning furniture for warmth, drinking contaminated water, and paying exorbitant prices for scarce food. Most hospitals were destroyed, leaving people without essential healthcare.

The image of 5-year-old Omran Daqneesh, covered in blood and dust after a bombing, became a symbol not just of Syria's suffering, but of humanity's broader struggle with darkness.

This darkness stems from humanity's rejection of God's ways. As Scripture reveals, Satan serves as the "god of this age" (2 Corinthians 4:4), influencing minds toward darkness (Ephesians 2:2). We face not merely physical conflicts, but spiritual warfare against "rulers of the darkness of this age" (Ephesians 6:12).

This condition traces back to Adam and Eve's choice to reject God's guidance and embrace Satan's deception about determining good and evil for themselves (Genesis 3:1-6). The consequences of this decision continue to manifest in today's suffering.

However, hope remains. Jesus Christ promised: "I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life" (John 8:12). Scripture prophesies a future where Satan will be bound (Revelation 20:2) and peace will prevail. As Zechariah 8:4-5 describes, elderly people will sit safely in streets where children play freely.

While Aleppo today reflects the darkness of Satan's influence, Christ's return will establish God's Kingdom on earth, replacing darkness with light and restoring hope to all humanity.
