Chemical weapons have shocked the world and reignited debate about what constitutes "civilized" warfare in Syria's ongoing civil war. The evidence of Syria using chemical weapons against its own people has sparked international outrage.

A recent attack killed approximately 1,400 people, including women and children, with victims displaying symptoms of neurotoxin exposure: convulsions, excess saliva, pinpoint pupils, blurred vision, and respiratory distress. While this incident crossed a "red line," it raises uncomfortable questions about warfare standards - if 1,400 deaths by chemical weapons are unacceptable, what about the previous 100,000 deaths in Syria's conflict?

The reality is that all warfare involves horrific violence:

  • Sniper fire causing instant death or prolonged suffering
  • Explosive weapons that dismember and maim
  • Military equipment designed specifically for mass casualties

The fundamental issue isn't about defining acceptable versus unacceptable warfare - it's about humanity's capacity for violence. As stated in Jeremiah 10:23: "O Lord, I know the way of man is not in himself; it is not in man who walks to direct his own steps."

Biblical prophecy indicates that Jesus Christ will return to establish God's Kingdom on Earth, ending human warfare (Matthew 24:21-22). According to Isaiah 9:7, this will usher in an era of true peace where concepts like chemical weapons and "civilized warfare" will no longer exist.

This transformation is pictured in the Feast of Trumpets, one of seven biblical festivals, which represents the first step toward lasting peace. As Revelation 22:20 states: "Even so, come, Lord Jesus!"

The Syrian conflict reminds us that while humanity struggles to define "acceptable" warfare, the ultimate solution lies not in our definitions but in divine intervention that will bring all warfare to an end.
