The ISIS Threat: Understanding God's Role in Times of Terror

The ISIS terror group poses an escalating threat to global security, particularly in Syria and Iraq. Their actions include beheadings, infiltration of cities worldwide, mass killings of religious minorities, and direct threats against Western nations.

Many compare the current ISIS threat level to that of al-Qaeda before 9/11. In response, the U.S. has announced plans to form an international coalition and expand airstrikes into Syria to combat the organization.

Unlike politically or economically motivated groups, ISIS operates primarily on religious ideology. Their fighters are driven by an extremist interpretation of Sunni Islam, believing their violent actions serve Allah's will.

During such crises, many ask where God is and why He allows such violence. However, the more pertinent question may be why societies only turn to God temporarily during catastrophes, as witnessed after 9/11, rather than maintaining consistent spiritual devotion and moral standards.

The Bible prophesies an unprecedented time of global trouble called the Great Tribulation (Matthew 24:21). Jesus advised his followers to "watch therefore, and pray always that you may be counted worthy to escape all these things that will come to pass" (Luke 21:36).

This situation calls for both individual and national response through:

  • Recognition of spiritual neglect
  • Genuine repentance
  • Renewed commitment to divine principles
  • Active preparation for prophesied events

The Ezekiel 33:7-11 passage emphasizes the importance of warning others about coming tribulation while encouraging positive spiritual change and moral reform.
