When churches gather for worship, they follow a rhythmic call and response pattern - commonly known as liturgy. God's Word calls through Scripture readings, blessings, and sermons, while congregants respond through song, greetings, giving, and communion.

The Daily Liturgy podcast emerged from Bob Thune's desire to bridge the gap between evangelical quiet times and Protestant liturgical traditions. Launched in 2016 at Coram Deo Church, it combines Scripture readings with elements from historic church liturgies in a 12-minute daily audio format.

The podcast draws from traditional Christian worship patterns and private prayer practices found in resources like:

  • The Book of Common Prayer
  • The Valley of Vision
  • The Worship Sourcebook
  • Various Reformed confessions and catechisms

Key benefits of the podcast format include:

  • Accessibility during daily activities
  • Hearing Scripture in addition to reading it
  • Building consistent spiritual disciplines
  • Global reach across different time zones and cultures

The podcast has shown significant impact:

  • Helped new Christians establish daily Bible reading habits
  • Provided structure for family devotions
  • Supported busy professionals in maintaining spiritual disciplines
  • Connected listeners worldwide with historic Christian practices

While not replacing in-person worship, Daily Liturgy serves as an audio lectionary that saturates listeners in Scripture and provides language for prayer. The human narration adds depth to the written word, helping Scripture come alive in fresh ways.

The podcast exemplifies how traditional Christian practices can be adapted for modern contexts while maintaining their essential purpose: helping believers engage with God's Word and respond in prayer.
